The much-awaited WTC Final between India and New Zealand was washed out as the rain poured continuously at the Ages Bowl, Southampton. Day 1 of the match was called off without bowling a single ball due to the rainy and wet weather. Rain reduced all the excitement of the cricket fans.

Toss was also delayed earlier as it was raining since morning. Though the rain stopped slowly the condition of the ground did not improve much to play. The match officials called off things and said the game will start at 10.30 AM local time, Saturday. The Kiwis revealed that 98 overs will be bowled on day 2.

As the day 1 play was cancelled, Social media was brisk with posts, comments, and jokes about the WTC final. Michael Vaughan was one of them and shared a cheeky tweet as “I see India have been saved by the weather”. The Indian fans felt this as a teasing tweet and thrashed back with their tweets. One of the Indian supporters came with an epic reply as “Just like England had been saved in the World Cup by Umpires and the boundaries count”. This is not the first time that Vaughan had crosstalk with the Indian fans. During the test series in Australia, he predicted that India will lose it as 4-0 but was trolled after India won it 2-1.

ICC has added a reserve day on June 23, confirming that the game will be played for all five days. ICC told that the World Test Championship title will be shared if there is no result even after the fifth day of the game.
