Suryakumar Yadav’s blistering knock powered India to beat West Indies by 7 wickets

Men in Blue exhibited a dominating batting performance to beat West Indies by 7 wickets in a must-win game at Providence Stadium. India’s T20 specialist batter Suryakumar Yadav played a blistering knock off 44-ball 83, powering his side to successfully chase the target of 160 with two overs to spare. Tilak Varma yet again played a brilliant innings and remained unbeaten on 49. Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav starred with a three-wicket haul for India.

Batting first, Brandon King and Kyle Mayers gave a solid start to the Windies, scoring 55 runs in 7.3 overs. After a long search, Axar Patel gave the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Mayers for 25. Moments later, Kuldeep struck to remove Johnson Charles (12). King and Nicholas Pooran added 30 runs to steady the hosts’ innings before Kuldeep sent back the dangerous Pooran (20).

In the same over, Kuldeep dismissed the well-settled King for 42. Two quick wickets slowed up the scoring rate of the Windies, however, its skipper Rovman Powell (40*) hit a few sixes toward the end and powered his side to reach a defendable total of 159/5 in 20 overs.

India’s chase got off to a poor start as both openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) and Shubman Gill (6) did not trouble the scorers and departed cheaply. But Suryakumar and Varma completely took the game away from the Windies by stitching an 87-run partnership. Suryakumar continued to hit more boundaries by dominating the Windies’ bowlers. India skipper Hardik Pandya chipped in with an unbeaten 20 to secure the important victory.

India will look to continue with the winning momentum and level the series when they take on the Windies in the fourth T20I match on August 12.
