India beat Hong Kong by 40-runs in the final league match to qualify for the Super Fours. Chasing a big target of 193, Hong Kong managed to score 152/5 in 20 overs.Babar Hayat top-scored with a knock of 41 runs. Hong Kong gave a good fight at the top but failed to score quick runs towards the end as they lost a few wickets. Though the Indian pacers faltered at the start, Indian spinners came into the picture as Hong Kong chase lost steam.
After being put into bat first, the Indian opening duo of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma gave a quick start to their side. But skipper Rohit failed to leave his mark as he departed for 21. Rahul and Virat Kohli played some elegant shots to put a partnership of 58-runs for the second wicket.
However, Rahul got out after a slugging 36 off 39.Kohli remained unbeaten on 59 while Suryakumar Yadav scored a whopping 68 off just 26-balls. Suryakumar played a fabulous inning at a strike rate of 261.53, having hit six fours and six sixes. Both added 98 runs off just 42 balls to post a good total of 192/2 in 20 overs.
In reply, Hong Kong lost Yasim Murtaza early for 9. Hayat hit a few boundaries and sixes to keep his side in the hunt. India took wickets at crucial moments to keep Hong Kong under control. Kinchit Shah and Zeeshan Ali played cameos of 30 and 26, but those were not good enough to chase the target.
