Bangladesh star allrounder defended his decision to play the IPL 2021 instead of the Test series against Sri Lanka, saying the national team is any way out of the reckoning for a spot in the ICC World Test Championship final. Shakib told Cricfrenzy that Bangladesh being bottom placed in the World Test Championship the two Test matches will not be making much of the difference. Another reason for this decision is the World Cup T20 that will be hosted in India later this year. He believes Bangladesh has much to achieve in the T20 World Cup rather than in the Test format which is why he wants to prepare for the big event. Shakib also said he did not mention that he didn’t want to play Tests in his letter to BCB. He wanted to play in the IPL to prepare for the shorter-format World Cup. The Bangladesh all-rounder wants to take this advantage of playing on the same grounds and players against who he will face in the World Cup T20 which he can also share with his compatriots. Shakib also slammed the BCB for scheduling Test matches during the IPL season. He drew a comparison by asking whether any Afghan player to be playing international cricket during IPL. He questioned if Bangladesh’s cricket board doesn’t value their own players, how can they expect their players to perform well when representing the country.
