Devdutt Padikkal, the Royal Challengers Bangalore opener has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently in quarantine at his home in Bengaluru. RCB in its statement said the opener is feeling well and will be joining the franchise’s bio-bubble once his RT-PCR tests come out negative. Also, RCB’s medical team is in touch with the youngster to ensure his safety.
At present, the rest of RCB’s squad is in the bio-secure bubble in Chennai. This means Padikkal will definitely miss RCB’s opening game of IPL 2021, which will be played against Mumbai Indians in Chennai on April 9. The Kohli-led team’s second match will be up against SRH on April 14. During IPL 2020 Padikkal in his debut season was RCB’s leading run-scorer. He scored 473 runs at an average of 31.53 and a strike rate of 124.80.
Prior to this season, Padikkal displayed stellar performance of scoring 218 runs from 6 innings in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He had an average of 43.60 and a strike rate of 134.56during that course. Padikkal’s is the third player to test positive so far with Delhi Capitals’ Axar Patel and the Kolkata Knight Riders’ Nitish Rana too have tested positive for Covid19. Axar joined his DC in their team hotel after providing a negative Covid-19 report on March 28. But despite that, he then tested positive for the virus. Meanwhile, Rana has tested negative and joined the team training sessions after a 12-day quarantine.
