Rahane open about playing the finisher role for Delhi Capitals

Ajinkya Rahane enjoys opening within the shortest format however a packed Delhi Capitals top-order might mean a possible finisher’s role is the best for Rahane that he’s not prepared to explore during the IPL 2020 in UAE.

Rahane joined Delhi Capitals for this season of IPL and could realize it troublesome to get a top order position in batting. This is since Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw are set to open the batting with Shreyas Iyer and then later Shimron Hetmyer and Rishabh Pant will be next in line.

Speaking with media persons Rahane said he has opened throughout his career and that he has enjoyed that.  He also added that if the team management asks him to bat at the 5th or 6th position, he will undoubtedly take it because it will be a new role and facilitate him to explore his game. Thus, from his perspective, he is ready for it and would take the challenge if it comes to him.

Rahane said 5 to 6 sessions of clear communication with the team management to discuss regarding the appointed role would be enough.

However, he did agree upon that field restrictions indeed work to the advantage of top-three in white ball cricket. It will be Rahane’s first stint underneath Delhi’s head coach Ricky Ponting and he’s certain that the tips and guidance from the legendary former Australian captain can help him transform into a more skilled cricketer overall.
