PM Modi pens an emotional letter to Dhoni upon his retirement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an emotional letter written to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, praised the former Indian skipper and called him a phenomenon. In the letter, PM Modi acknowledged Dhoni’s contribution towards cricket and highlighted how big an impact he left on the nation. PM Modi also mentioned Dhoni’s human aspect as well as his unique bond that he shares with his daughter Ziva.

The letter read, the name MS Dhoni will not be only be remembered for his career statistics or match-winning roles and looking at him just as a sportsman would be an injustice. The correct way to assess Dhoni’s impact is to say it as a phenomenon. PM Modi also hailed Dhoni’s love for the armed forces. Dhoni has even served in the army for a while after the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup.

The Indian PM also highlighted the importance of maintaining a work-life balance the way Dhoni did while also maintaining a cool and calm demeanor, which the 2011 Word Cup-winning Indian captain exemplifies. The letter also sheds light on the fact that someone from a small town like Dhoni from Ranchi went on to achieve unthinkable things for his country. An image of this letter was shared on Twitter by Dhoni himself.

On August 15 Dhoni had announced his retirement from international cricket. The wicketkeeper-batsman will continue to represent the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2020 that begins on September 19.
