Virat Kohli revealed that he had messaged Faf du Plessis as soon as the latter was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 IPL auction. Earlier, Kohli stepped down as the skipper of the RCB franchise last season. Faf du Plessis was announced as RCB’s captain for this season. Former South African captain has a huge task in front of him, motivating his men and leading them to lift their first-ever IPL trophy. Kohli will enter the IPL 2022 with no additional responsibility and play his natural game without any pressure.
Kohli admitted that the franchise’s plan was very clear to rope in a good leader who commands respect. So the RCB franchise fought to pick du Plessis for a staggering INR 7 crore. Kohli stated that the fact that Du Plessis was captain of South Africa in all formats means he is a respected figure. Further, Kohli added that Du Plessis does not demand it but commands it since he had done it already.
Kohli intimated that the RCB champ is excited for him to lead the team this year. Former Indian captain believes that Du Plessis will do a tremendous job to finish at the top. Kohli expressed that he is looking good with renewed energy as he is off a lot of responsibilities and duties.
The 33-year-old batter said that his focus is now clear and precise to score more runs. The top-order batter wants to play just as a player and enjoy his cricket on the field. RCB will play their season-opener against Punjab Kings on March 27 at DY Patil Stadium.
