Royal Challengers Bangalore held heir nerve to beat Chennai Super Kings by 13 runs. Chasing a target of 174, CSK were restricted to 160/8. Devon Conway top-scored for CSK with a fine 56 while Moeen Ali played a quick-fire knock of 34. A disciplined and collective bowling performance helped RCB secure two crucial points to move up in the points table. RCB managed to outclass Chennai in all three departments.

After being put into bat first, RCB got off to flying start as Virat Kohli and skipper Faf du Plessis added 62-runs for the first wicket. Moeen gave CSK the initial breakthrough by dismissing Faf for 38. Kohli then made a blunder that cost the wicket of Glenn Maxwell. Kohli (30) followed him as well, as CSK took charge of the proceedings.

Mahipal Lomror and Rajat Patidar then added 44-runs to steady RCB innings. Lomror played a firing knock of 42 while Dinesh Karthik played a cameo of 26-runs. Karthik’s strong finish powered RCB to a total of 173/8.

In reply, CSK had a strong start, scoring 51/0 in the power-play. However, Shahbaz Ahmed provided the breakthrough for RCB, dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad on 28. Though Devon Conway continued to bat well, Maxwell struck twice to bring RCB back into the game.

CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals and that hurt them a lot in the chase. In the end, Harshal Patel hurt CSK with three wickets in his spell as MS Dhoni-led side endured a seventh loss in the season.
