IPL 2022: Punjab Kings ended their campaign with a clinical victory

Punjab Kings produced a clinical performance to end their IPL 2022 campaign with a 5-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. Liam Livingstone top-scored with an unbeaten knock of 49-runs while Shikhar Dhawan contributed with 39-runs as Punjab Kings chased down the 158-run target with 29 balls to spare. For SRH, Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up two wickets while Washington Sundar, Jagadeesha Suchit, and Umran Malik pocketed a wicket each.

After opting to bat, SRH lost its opener, Priyam Garg early as Kagiso Rabada dismissed him for just 4. Abhishek Sharma (43) and Rahul Tripathi (20) then steadied their ship with a 47-run stand for the second wicket. However, Harpreet Brar dismissed both batters in quick succession to peg SRH back. Brar went on to pick up the wicket of Aiden Markram (21), who looked in good touch.

SRH was reeling at 96/5 at one stage. But Romario Shepherd (26) and Sundar (25) provided them with some much-needed impetus and helped their side to reach a respectable total of157/8 in 20 overs. For PBKS, Brar and Nathan Ellis starred with a ball as both bowlers ended with a three-wicket haul.

In reply, Punjab Kings’ opening duo Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan gave their side a flying start before the former was cleaned up by Farooqi on 23. Shahrukh Khan chipped in with 19-runs. Dhawan and Livingstone then put PBKS back in the contest by adding 41-runs. Jitesh Sharma also took the game to the SRH bowlers by playing a little cameo of 19-runs. PBKS outplayed SRH in all three departments to secure a comfortable win.
