Gujarat Titans defeated Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in a last-over thriller at Wankhede. Chasing 159 runs to win, Rahul Tewatia and David Miller (30) added a crucial 60-run for the fifth wicket and helped their side to reach the target with just two balls to spare. Rahul Tewatia batted brilliantly and remained unbeaten on 40. Earlier, Titans’ pacer Mohammed Shami bowled a fiery opening spell and scalped three wickets.
Shami gave a dreamy start to the Titans after his skipper Hardik Pandya decided to bowl first. Shami bowled an unplayable delivery to dismiss LSG skipper KL Rahul for a golden duck. In his next over, Shami delivered a gem of in-swinging delivery to clean up Quinton de Kock (7).
Varun Aaron then dismissed Evin Lewis for just 10-run. LSG looked under huge pressure as Shami bowled out Manish Pandey and reduced the Titans to 29/4 in 5 overs. However, Deepak Hooda (55) and Ayush Badoni (54) played beautifully to steady their ship. Both smashed half-centuries and helped their team to post a defendable total of 158/6.
Krunal Pandya batted well to contribute 21-runs towards the end. In response, Titans failed to have a good start as LSG pacer Dushmantha Chameera stunned them with two early blows. In the first over, the Lankan bowler dismissed Shubman Gill for a duck.
He then cleaned up Vijay Shankar (4) in the third over. However, Hardik (33) and Matthew Wade (30) gave a good fight by added 57-runs. Abhinav Manohar played a little cameo of 15-runs to cross the finish line.
