IPL 2022: Gujarat Titans hammered Lucknow Super giants to secure a play-off berth

Gujarat Titans registered a dominant victory over Lucknow Super Giants to become the first team to qualify for IPL 2022 playoffs. Titans produced a clinical performance to beat LSG by 62-runs. Chasing a target of 145-runs, LSG batters never found their momentum and were bowled out for 82. GT vice-captain Rashid Khan led their bowling attack and ended up with figures of 4/24.

After deciding to bat first, the Titans had a poor start as Wriddhiman Saha (5) and Matthew Wade (10) departed early. A few moments later, Avesh Khan struck again to dismiss GT skipper Hardik Pandya for just 11. Shubman Gill and David Miller (26) took the responsibility and batted sensibly to put up a 52-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Gill scored an unbeaten 63-run off 49-balls to put his side on top. Rahul Tewatia played a fine cameo of 22-runs and helped GT to post a respectable total of 144/4 in 20overs. Avesh scalped two wickets while Mohsin Khan and Jason Holder picked up one wicket each.

In reply, LSG opening duo KL Rahul (8) and Quinton de Kock (11) never found their rhythm going. Yash Dayal and Mohammed Shami struck in consecutive overs to dismiss both the openers cheaply. Deepak Hooda kept the hopes alive with a fighting knock of 27.

But very soon it was the Titans’ spinning duo Rashid and Sai Kishore, who ran through the LSG middle order and took the game away from them. For the second time in this season, LSG suffered a defeat against Titans and on both occasions, their batting unit disappointed the bowlers.
