IPL 2022: Butler’s ton & Chahal’s hat-trick sealed a win for Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 7-run in a high-scoring thriller. Chasing a target of 218, KKR came very near to the finish line, but a hat-trick from Yuzvendra Chahal helped the Royals to bundle out KKR for 210. KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer led from the front with a blistering knock of 85-runs but all his efforts went in vain. The Purple cap holder Chahal finished with figures of 5/40.

After being invited to bat first, the Royals’ openers Jos Butler and Devdutt Padikkal gave a solid and bright start to their side. Both added 97-runs for the opening wicket before Sunil Narine bowled out Padikkal on 28. Then RR skipper Sanju Samson scored a quick-fire 38-run to keep his team at the top.

On the other side, Butler smashed boundaries and brought up his second century of this year’s IPL but he departed in the same over for 103. Shimron Hetmyer played a useful cameo of 26-runs off 13 balls and helped his side to post a mammoth total of 217/5.

Though KKR lost Narine in the very first ball, Aaron Finch and Iyer gave an excellent start to their side. Both batted brilliantly to put a score of 107/1 in just 8.5 overs. Prasidh Krishna gave the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Finch on 58. Ravichandran Ashwin bowled cleverly to clean up Andre Russell for a duck.

Chahal brought RR into the game by picking up a hat-trick in the 17th over. Umesh Yadav played a cameo of 21-runs to keep KKR in the hunt. But Obed McCoy bowled out him to secure the win for the Royals.
