Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Royal challengers to Bangalore and won the match by nine wickets. KKR had begun the second phase of the IPL with a terrific win charring a below-par target of 93. KKR reached 94/1 in just 10 overs and recorded a dominating win. Earlier, Andre Russell and Varun Chakravarthy collapsed the RCB batting line-up by picking up three wickets each.
Royal challengers Bangalore Captain Virat Kohli elected to bat first after winning the toss. KKR put pressure on RCB by dismissing Kohli in the 2nd over of the innings. KKR seamer prasidh Krishna trapped him before wicket for just 5run. Lockie Ferguson gave the second breakthrough by removing Padikkal, who top-scored for RCB with 22 runs.
Russell bowled a spectacular fiery yorker to dismiss AB de Villiers for a golden duck. This was de Villier’s 6th golden duck in the IPL. Varun rolled on RCB batting by picking up three wickets namely Maxwell, Sachin Baby, and debutant Hasaranga.
KKR bowled out RCB for just as 19 runs in 19 overs. Russell finished 9/3 in 3 overs with an economy of just 3. Varun registered 13/3 in his 4 overs and Ferguson picked up 2 for 24 runs. RCB bowlers failed to make an impact with the ball. KKR openers Shubman Gill and
Venkatesh Iyer scored 82 runs for the opening wicket and helped KKR to record a massive win. Gill smashed 48 runs, while debutant Iyer remained unbeaten on 41. Iyer finished off the match by hitting back to back – fours.
Varun Chakravarthy was adjudged man of the match for his excellent bowling figures. KKR needed a victory to increase their chances of getting into the playoffs and they got a big one. KKR moved to 5th place in the table with 6 points, while RIB remains in the 3rd position with 10 points.
