Rajasthan Royals pulled off an epic 2-run win against Punjab Kings at Dubai International Stadium. Chasing a target of 186, Punjab needed just 10 runs off 15 balls with 8 wickets in hand. However, Kartik Tyagi did the unthinkable in the final over and snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat. Tyagi conceded just one run and picked up two wickets in the penultimate 20th over to edge past Punjab Kings. Two quality batsmen, Nicholas Pooran (32) and Aiden Markram (26*) failed to score 10 runs and reach the target.
KL Rahul won the toss and asked Rajasthan Royals to bat first. Rajasthan Royals openers Evin Lewis (36) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (49) played good shots and took their team off to a brilliant start. Rajasthan reached 50 runs in just 5 overs. After their dismissal, Liam Livingstone (25) and Mahipal Lomror (43) took up the responsibility and scored quick runs by hitting the boundaries frequently. But Rajasthan Royals kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab as he scalped his maiden five-wicket haul and helped to restrict Rajasthan to 185. Punjab’s senior pacer Mohamed Shami picked up three wickets. Punjab Kings excellently chased the target as skipper KL Rahul (49) and Mayank Agarwal (67) stitched an outstanding century stand for the opening wicket. RR missed three catches on-field and failed to take early wickets.
However, Sakariya and Tewatia removed both the openers in quick succession. Tyagi bowled one of the best overs of his career and helped Rajasthan to clinch an important victory. Tyagi received the player of the match award for his last over heroics.
