IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians in a nail-biting thriller


Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 20 runs in the opener of the second phase at Dubai International Stadium. Chennai Super Kings moved to the top of the table after defeating Mumbai Indians. CSK Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad top-scored with 88 runs and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo played a cameo for 23 runs. Chasing a target of 157, Mumbai Indians managed to score 136/8 in 20 overs.

MS Dhoni decided to bat first after winning the toss. MI senior pacer Trent Boult shocked CSK by dismissing Faf du Plessis for a duck in the very first over. Boult and Adam Milne rolled on Super Kings top-order and reduced them to 4/24 in the powerplay. Milne dismissed Mooen Ali for a duck while Boult removed Suresh Raina for just 4 runs. Captain cool MS Dhoni went back for just 3 runs. 

Gaikwad partnered with Ravindra Jadeja to steady the innings for CSK. Both added 81 runs to reach a decent score. Gaikwad played an excellent knock to score his 6th IPL fifty and remained unbeaten on 88. Bravo smashed 23 off just 8 balls and helped CSK to reach 156.

Deepak Chahar gave the breakthrough for CSK by dismissing Quinton de Kock for 17 and followed it with the wicket of Anmolpreet Singh, whom he clean bowled. Shardul Thakur struck in his first over by scalping the big wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. CSK dismissed Pollard and Krunal Pandya in quick succession and destroyed Mumbai Indians’ hope of winning the match.

Saurabh Tiwary battled alone for Mumbai Indians, but he was unable to take his team home. Tiwary remained unbeaten on 50. Ruturaj Gaikwad received the player of the match award for his brilliant knock under pressure.
