India vs West Indies, 1st T20: Men in Blue win by six wickets, take 1-0 lead

India beat West Indies by six wickets in the first T20 at Eden Gardens. Men in Blue chased down the target of 158-run with seven balls to spare. Indian middle-order batters Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer remained unbeaten on 34 and 24 to help their side reach the target with ease. Debutant Ravi Bishnoi impressed everyone with his bowling figures of 2/17 in 4 overs.

The visitors were asked to bat first, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar stunned them by dismissing Brandon King in the very first over. Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran steadied their innings by adding 47-run before Yuzvendra Chahal trapped Mayers LBW. Bishnoi bowled brilliantly to bag Roston Chase and Rovman Powell in the same over.

Akeal Hosein did not last long and went back for just 10. Windies skipper Kieron Pollard and Pooran started to play big hits towards the end overs. While Pooran scored a power-hitting 61 off 43, Pollard remained unbeaten on 24. The Windies managed to reach 157/7 in 20 overs.

In response, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave a solid start. Skipper Rohit smashed Odean Smith for 22 runs in one over and quick-fired 40 at the top. Ishan (35) played with a strike rate of 83.33. Chase removed both the openers to bring his side into the game.

While Fabian Allen dismissed Kohli for 17, Cottrell scalped Pant for just 8. The Windies bowlers made it hard to score runs quickly. However, Suryakumar and Iyer batted responsibly and stitched a 48-run partnership to secure the win.
