India vs South Africa, 3rd Test: Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul put India on top

Indian skipper Virat Kohli (14*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (9*) take India to 57/2 after 17 at Stumps on Day 2. India lead by 70 runs after Indian pacers bundled out the Proteas for 210. Jasprit Bumrah was in excellent form and registered his seventh five-wicket haul with top-class bowling. Bumrah troubled the South African batters with pace and accuracy. Other Indian seamers supported him well to put India on top.

While Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav scalped two each, Shardul Thakur bagged one. Though a lead of 13-run was less about the quantum, it gave a psychological advantage to India. Despite losing its openers KL Rahul (7) and Mayank Agarwal (7) very early, India scored runs at a fair rate.

Two senior batters Kohli and Pujara have to take on the responsibility and play well to reach a winning total. Kohli’s captaincy was brilliant on the field as he made relevant bowling changes at the right times. He shuffled with subtle field placing and took his 100th catch in Test cricket.

South African middle-order looked to take the game away from the visitors. However, Umesh Yadav gave the breakthrough by dismissing Dussen (21). A few moments later, Shami set up the ground on fire by dismissing Bavuma (28) and Kyle Verreynne (0) in the same over.

The Proteas batters seemed confused whether the ball would bounce above stumps or come at the stumps. Bumrah lauded Kohli for bringing lots of energy to the side. Bumrah made his Test debut at Newlands in 2018, now he has returned with five wickets.
