India tour South Africa to play the three-match Test series and a three-match ODI series. The first Test is scheduled to start from 26th December in Centurion. Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman has picked Shreyas Iyer over Ajinkya Rahane for the first test. Laxman said that the team management can’t go ahead with Rahane as Iyer needs some sort of continuity. Laxman added that continuity is very important, so he will play Shreyas Iyer for sure.
National Cricket Academy head admitted that Iyer has shown resourcefulness by smashing a century on debut and then following it up with a half-century. Laxman said that the way Iyer batted under pressure was excellent, and the team management should give him the continuity which will give increase the confidence in the young batsman. Laxman added that he would definitely give that confidence to Iyer.
Laxman quipped that he would pick Hanuma Vihari in the first test. It will add more strength to team India to score big. He added the Indian team must go in with a 3+1 combination which means three seamers and one spinner in Ravichandran Ashwin. Laxman also emphasized the role of Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja, as an all-rounder performs well with the bat in overseas conditions.
Laxman praised the young pacer Mohammed Siraj and called him one of the World’s best at the moment. Laxman admitted that he enjoyed Siraj’s energy and intensity on the field. He ended up that Siraj is confident about his craft and plans well to bowl his spell with variations.
