Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur scored half-centuries and stood for a 100-run partnership. Shardul Thakur scored the second fifty of the test, while Pant scored his maiden half-century of the series. However, England dismissed both the batsmen in quick succession.
England dominated the first session by taking the wickets of Virat Kohli, Jadeja, and Rahanae. Moeen Ali got the big fish Virat Kohli, while Chris Woakes trapped the other two. Ajinya Rahane continued his poor form with bat and went for a duck.
