India level the series by winning the Boxing Day Test match at MCG

India bounced back from a historic defeat in Adelaide to win the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. They now level the four-match Test series against Australia. From holding the advantage India lost the first Test in a terrible way. But that did not deteriorate the team’s morale as stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane led from the front with his century and later on continued by performances from debutants Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj.

Led by the experienced Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah in the bowling attack, India dismissed Australia for 195 and 200, leaving the visitors with an easy task of chasing 70 runs to win. India lost two wickets in quick succession but eventually tasted victory with Gill and Rahane at the crease as the captain fittingly hit the winning runs.

Soon Indian cricket personals lauded the team’s victory on social media. Tendulkar tweeted that to win a Test match without Virat, Rohit, Ishant & Shami is a terrific achievement. He appreciated the resilience and character shown by the team to come back from a loss and level the series.

Kohli gave credits to the amazing effort by the whole team in his tweet and lauded Rahane’s leadership quality in the match. While Rohit tweeted, it has a fantastic win at the MCG for India.

Also, former Indian players Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina and VVS Laxman poured in their appreciation for the team.
