On the back of an all-round performance from Ravichandran, Ashwin India beat England by 317 runs in the second Test match to level the series by 1-1. Ashwin stood out from the rest by taking 8 wickets and scored a century for which he was awarded the Man of the Match. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma scored his seventh Test century and Axar Patel took a fifer in his debut Test match helping the hosts to dominate the game. Starting the day at 53/3 England lost Dan Lawrence to Ashwin’s first delivery of the day. Ben Stokes and Joe Root were able to show some resistance but Ashwin struck again to dismiss Stokes. Later England lost a couple of wickets in quick succession to Axar’s and Kuldeep’s bowling. Axar Patel then took the mantle of leading the bowling attack as he dismissed Root for the second time in the match and went on to convert it into a maiden five-wicket haul in Tests. Moeen Ali with his 43 off 18 deliveries tried to reduce the difference but ultimately perished to Kuldeep Yadav bringing the game to an end. Earlier, in the game, Rohit, Rahane, and Rishabh Pant helped India reach 329. Ashwin took a fifer in the first innings which wrapped England to a mere 134 runs. Solid performance from Ashwin and Kohli helped India post a humongous target of 482 runs for the visitors to chase.
