India registered a three-wicket win over Sri Lanka in a nail-biting second ODI and clinched the series 2-0. Chasing a target of 276, the Indian top-order failed to perform while Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar played tremendously under pressure and helped their team to reach 277/7 in 49.1 overs. Both hit maiden fifties to lead India to a memorable victory.

The Lankans desperately needed a win but failed to complete the job as they lost the match from a good commanding position. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 275/9, Charith Asalanka top-scoring with 65 runs. For India, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bowled well with figures of 3/50, while Bhuvneswar Kumar picked 3/54.

India felt the pressure early on in the chase with Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan, getting out quickly. Skipper Dhawan was also not in his free-flowing form. Suryakumar Yadav played a promising knock of 53runs and kept the scoreboard moving. Sri Lankan Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga troubled the Indian batsmen with his variations.

India was down to 193/7 but Chahar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar produced an unbeaten 84-run stand to reach the target. The tail-ender Deepak Chahar, whose highest score was 12, showed a remarkable determination and great composure with his bat. Chahar remained unbeaten on 69 and hit the winning boundary for India. Chahar won the player of the match award for his wonderful batting and bowling figures of 2/53.

India extended its record of not losing an ODI on Sri Lankan soil since 2012. India recorded the ninth consecutive bilateral series win over Sri Lanka. The final and third ODI will be played on Friday.
