ICC Women’s World Cup: India registered a massive 107-run victory over Pakistan

India clinched an impressive 107-run victory over their arch-rivals Pakistan. A clinical bowling performance helped India to thrash Pakistan in their first match of the ICC 2022 World Cup. A record seventh-wicket partnership between all-rounders Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana helped their side to reach a defendable total. With this win, the Indian women’s team continued its unbeaten record (11 matches) against Pakistan.

After deciding to bat first, India lost its opener, Shafali Verma for a duck. Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma took the responsibility to steady the innings. Both batted brilliantly by finding gaps and hitting boundaries to score runs. Both produced a 92-run stand before Nashra Sandhu bowled out Deepti for 40. Very soon, Anam Amin made dismissed Mandhan, who was batting well at 52-run.

A little collapse in the middle-order reduced India to 114/6. However, Pooja and Rana stitched a 122-run partnership to spur India to a respectable total of 244/7. Pooja went back after scoring a blistering 67-run while Rana (53*) remained unbeaten.

In response, Pakistan’s chase never took off as Indian bowlers delivered some tight bowling. The pressure eventually made Javeria Khan gift her wicket, who tried to take the aerial route. Indian spinners dominated well to take wickets at crucial moments. Jhulan Goswami mounted the pressure by picking up two wickets in two overs.

India took wickets at regular intervals and bowled out Pakistan for 137. This win gives a huge early boost to India’s net run rate. Gayakwad was almost unplayable and finished with figures of 4/31.  Goswami and Rana bagged two each while Meghna and Deepti ended with one each.
