ICC T20 World Cup: The Blackcaps crush Men in blue by 8 wickets

New Zealand thumped India by eight wickets in a super 12 match at Dubai international stadium. Team India’s hope of making the semifinals looks like a distant dream after their loss against the Kiwis. Chasing a below-par 111, Daryl Mitchell (49) and Kane Williamson (33*) helped the Black caps chase down the target in just 14.3 overs.

Kiwi bowlers scalped wickets at regular intervals and restricted India to 110/7. Trent Boult (3/20) and Ish Sodhi (2/17) shared five Indian wickets. Ravindra Jadeja top-scored with an unbeaten 26.

After being put in to bat, Indian batsmen struggled to produce any serious threat to a disciplined Kiwi bowling attack. Leg-break bowler Ish Sodhi and left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner bowled brilliantly and conceded just 17 and 15 runs from their respective four overs. Boult dismissed Ishan Kishan (4) in the 3rd over and initiated the collapse.

Sodhi put pressure on India by dismissing the big fishes Rohit Sharma (14) and Virat Kohli (9). Indian opener KL Rahul, who was in fine form, once again failed to score big. Big hitters Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya struggled to hit boundaries and score quick runs. Indian batsmen shot selection was questionable.

Chasing an easy target, Kiwi Opener Martin Guptill (20) played a cameo and provided a good start for his side. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Guptill in the 4th over, but that was not enough for India to stop the blackcaps run. Mitchell and Kiwi skipper Williamson played brilliant shots to reach the target with ease.

India is placed in the fifth position after losing both matches. Men in blue must register a win to stay in the contest when they take on Afghanistan on 3 rd October.
