On Saturday, India registered their lowest total in a Test inning of 36. With the game getting over before the Tea Australia took a 1-0 lead. India will now have to win the next two matches to stand a chance to clinch the series.
Asides from this now India’s Mohammed Shami has suffered a fractured arm. According to reports Shami has been ruled out of the Test series but as of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding this from BCCI.
India’s batting legend Sunil Gavaskar said Shami’s injury is a major problem for the Indian team since he has the ability to take wickets by stunning Australia with yorkers and bouncers.
Gavaskar even went on to suggest to bring Ishant Sharma as a replacement for Shami if the former is found fit. Gavaskar said if Ishant is fit enough to bowl 20 overs in a day then BCCI should fly him to Australia soon so that he will be ready to play in the forthcoming Sydney Test.
He feels India has to take this chance because they do not have a back-up. According to Gavaskar, Navdeep Saini has the potential to take wickets but his performance in the warm-up matches shows he could not trouble the Australian batting lineup much.
India and Australia will meet again at MCG for the Boxing Day Test. Captain Virat Kohli will be not available for the remainder of the series.
