Sunil Gavaskar in his recent column heaped praise on Rishabh Pant for leading Delhi Capitals brilliantly in the IPL 2021. The former Indian legend believes Pant has the qualities to become one of the top captains to emerge from India in the future. After Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury Pant was handed the captaincy of the Delhi Capitals. Under the leadership of Pant DC performed magnificently as the team was placed on the top of the points table before IPL was indefinitely suspended due to rising cases of Covid-19. Gavaskar lauded Pant’s temperament as a leader, stating that the youngster is clever enough to learn. In his latest column for Sportstar, the cricketer-turnedcommentator wrote that the youngster showed a ‘spark’ in the tournament which could become a ‘roaring fire’. Gavaskar wrote in his column the standout team this IPL has been the Delhi Capitals under the leadership of young Rishabh Pant. Over the season it was evident that Pant was getting tired of being asked about captaining a team. Every post-match interview had the same question and what he showed was a spark that can power a future generation of cricketers. Gavaskar also brushed about the cricketer’s mistakes saying it’s fine to make mistakes unless the individual is learning from them. In the IPL 2021 season, Rishabh Pant scored 213 runs in 8 innings, averaging 35.50 runs with a strike rate of 131.48.
