Following a humiliating ICC T20 World Cup exit, Men in blue are gearing up for a return to action with a three-match T20I series against New Zealand. A number of senior players including Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli have been rested for the tour. Hardik Pandya-led side is ready to kickstart the new white-ball era. Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer have been selected as the top-order batters while world no.1 T20 batter Suryakumar Yadav has retained his place in the squad.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag has talked about the omission of young batter Prithvi Shaw from the squad. The star opener has been impressive in domestic cricket over the past few months and scored runs with a strike rate of over 152 for the Delhi Capitals in the 2022 IPL season.
Sehwag wants the selectors to call back Prithvi to the Indian team. The last time he played a T20I for India was in July 2021 against Sri Lanka, which was also his international debut in the shortest format of the game. Sehwag stated that one name that he wanted to see in the squad was Prithvi. The former cricketer expressed that the 23-year-old batter is not in the T20 team or the ODI team.
Sehwag is hopeful that he would see Prithvi back in the team for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Prithvi, who plays at an excellent strike-rate in the top order, is very much suitable for T20 cricket. Sehwag concluded that the selectors could have at least taken him as a reserve player.
