The 14th edition IPL will begin on April 9 in Chennai with the first match being played between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. BCCI intimated the IPL franchises through a mail on Sunday., As of now, BCCI confirmed that Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata will be hosting the league. The Narendra Modi Cricket stadium in Ahmedabad will host the playoffs on May 25, 26 and 28 while the final on May 30. The league will be played behind closed doors and any decision regarding letting the spectators will be made later. Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru will each host 10 games out of the 56 league stage matches, while Ahmedabad and Delhi will host 8. The afternoon matches are to be played at 3:30 PM IST and the evening matches at 7:30 PM IST. A total of 11 doubleheaders will be played during the season. 6 teams will play 3-afternoon matches each and 2 teams would play 2. BCCI highlighted that that the fixture has been drawn up in a suitable manner for the current situation that every team will travel only thrice during the league stage. BCCI in its press release said after successfully hosting the last IPL edition safely in the UAE with all safety protocols in place, the board is confident of hosting this year’s IPL in India with high priority for the health and safety of players and all people involved.
