The final day play of the first test between India and England was abandoned due to rain. The first test of the five-match series ended in a draw as rain washed out the whole day at Trent Bridge. Rain delayed the start of play on the fifth day and also washed out the first two sessions.

Persistent rain never allowed the officials to take an inspection. The rain stopped for a short while, but all hopes of watching a cricket vanished as the drizzle got heavier. Then the officials decided to call off the play altogether.

 Chasing 209 to win, India was in a comfortable position in the second innings, finished 52/1 at the end of the fourth day. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara remained unbeaten at the crease. India needed 157 more runs on the final day to win the first test but rain guaranteed that not a single ball could be bowled.

India dominated the game as they dismissed England for 183 in the first innings and then took a 95-run lead with KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja scoring brilliant half-centuries. In the second innings, England skipper Joe Root batted well and fought back with a gritty century to set a target of 209 runs for India.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly and took 9 wickets in the match. Jasprit Bumrah got his name upon the honors board after registering a five-wicket haul at Trent Bridge on Day 4 of the first Test. It was Bumrah’s 2nd fifer in England, as the first one came in the 2018 test series.
