Rohit Sharma scored a century in his Test debut as an opener as India reached 202-0 at stumps with rain preventing any play in the final session on Day 1 of the first test opened  South Africa on Wednesday.

Sharma had never opened even in domestic first-class cricket apart from his two-ball duck for the Indian Board President’s XI against South Africans last week.

After analysing the measure of the Ground, Rohit went for his strokes like he does in white-ball cricket. His first big shot was a royal one as he perfectly stepped out of the crease to smash Maharaj over long-on. A little later, he played a similar short off Piedt and this time the ball flew well above the long-on fielder.

And Earlier, India team captain Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat in the series opener. And South Africa,  Kagiso Rabada was the get of the bowlers. The pace bowler managed to bowl five maiden overs out of the 13 he bowled on Day 1. Rain can play spoilsport in the remainder of the first Test as heavy rain is predicted for the next four days in  Vizag
