BCCI President Sourav Ganguly confirmed that the T20 World Cup is being shifted to UAE. Earlier it was scheduled to be held in India, but due to the health safety concerns created by COVID-19, the World Cup has been shifted. Confirmation from Ganguly has put an end card to weeks of assumptions made towards the mega ICC event that happens in October – November.
Sourav Ganguly said BCCI has officially informed the ICC that the T20World Cup can be shifted to the United Arab Emirates. He added that this hard decision was taken by keeping the health care of all in mind. However, BCCI will be the host of the major tournament.
Ganguly said the start date of the World Cup is yet to be confirmed, also mentioned that 17th October has not been finalized and the same will be revealed in some days. Giving a big consideration to the COVID-19 situation in India, ICC gave a four-week time to decide and intimate whether BCCI could host the event in India.
On 4th May, Press Trust of India reported that the T20 World Cup will be shifted to UAE. This report came after the pandemic situation forced the postponement of IPL. The remaining games of the IPL will also be held in UAE.
India may find it difficult to host a 16-country event across nine cities as they must focus on health safety measures too. ICC had started its preparations and plans for the tournament which will be held in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.
