New Zealand beat England by eight wickets to win the second Test at Edgbaston. Since 1999 this is the first test series win for New Zealand in the England Soil. New Zealand has won the two-match series 1-0 ahead of World Test Championship final against India.
It was Tom Latham, the stand-in captain who hit the winnings runs in the fourth innings of the match and remained unbeaten on 23. England was outplayed by the New Zealand bowlers as they were all out for 122. Opener Devon Conway, who played a master class in the first test, was dismissed for just three runs by Stuart Broad.
On Day 4, it was Olly Stone the last man to be dismissed by the fast bowler Trent Boult. It was Neil Wagner and Matt Henry, the highest wicket takers for the Kiwis with figures of 3/18 and 3/36 respectively. Matt Henry was awarded the Man of the Match as he dismissed the top three England batsmen within the first 11 overs of the second innings.
From there on, the host’s batting order fell apart and it was Wood & Ollie Stone helped England to a tenuous lead of 37 runs, with a partnership of 44 runs between them. Half-centuries from Devon Conway, Ross Taylor and Will Young in the first innings helped New Zealand to reply with 388 runs for England’s 308.
As this win makes a good impact and a positive mindset for the Kiwis, all eyes are on New Zealand, as they face India in the World Test Championship final at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on June 18.
