Delhi Capitals defeated Punjab Kings by seven wickets in Sunday’s second match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. A brilliant innings from opener Shikhar Dhawan (69*) made this win possible. Delhi choosing to bowl first after winning the toss restricted Punjab to 166 for 6 wickets and then reached the target within 16.4 overs by losing 3 wickets. DC has now reached the top of the table with 12 points. Punjab has suffered their 5th defeat this season and is positioned 6th with six points.
Apart from Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw scored 39, Steve Smith scored 24 runs and Shimron Hetmyer 16*. For Punjab Kings, Riley Meredith, Chris Jordan and Harpreet Brar took one wicket each. Earlier, thanks to captain Mayank Agarwal’s unbeaten innings of 99 runs, Punjab gave the target of 167 runs. Punjab started off to bat first and the team lost two wickets of Prabhsimran Singh (12) and Chris Gayle (13) for just 35 runs. Mayank then provided stability to the team by sharing 52 runs partnership for the third wicket with Dawid Malan (26).
Mayank then shared a 41-run 23-ball partnership for the fifth wicket with Shah Rukh Khan (4) to take Punjab to a respectable score. While others like Deepak Hooda scored 1, Chris Jordan 2 and Harpreet Brar scored 4*. Punjab scored 76 runs in the last 6 overs. For Delhi Capitals, Kagiso Rabada took 3 wickets and Axar Patel and Avesh Khan took one wicket each.
