Sandeep Warrier, who went unsold at the auction, has been signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming edition of IPL. The move comes after a back injury to Kamlesh Nagarkoti.
Warrier picked up eight wickets in six games – with a hat-trick against Andhra – at an economy of 5.81 for Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. KKR will be his second IPL franchise, the first being Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he was for three seasons from 2013 to 2015 but didn’t get a chance to play.
The extent of the injury to Nagarkoti isn’t known yet. The pacer had missed the last season as well because of a foot injury.
In another blow to the Knight Riders, Shivam Mavi is also out of the upcoming season due to a back stress fracture.
KKR start their campaign with a home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 24.
