The Indian Premier League 2020 was to begin on March
29th but, with the COVID-19 alert even the rescheduled date
April 15th, 2020, had called-off, due to the priority of the
nation’s health, and the security of players. Now, after a lot of
deliberations, the IPL season 13 returns later this year after the
monsoon period, confirms BCCI’s Chief Executive Rahul Johri,
and the ICC World Cup 2020 had postponed.
The BCCI’s CEO said that IPL had been the greatest
engager, every year, in the cricket season, and more people
had shown interest in watching the Indian Premier League than
the others, and for sponsors, the IPL is a leader for economic
recovery. Johri also said that IPL is a step-by-step process, and
cannot expect immediate normalization, at least not until the
orders of the nation’s governance. When the lockdown ends,
on May 31st, and the monsoon had crossed, the IPL season 13
will begin.
Johri also said that the flights had resumed, so the players
could travel yet, every IPL cricketer had to follow the 14 days
quarantine guidelines, but he is being optimistic and hopeful
that by then, the situation would have improved. Holding IPL-
13 without spectators, Johri said that the international cricket
had decided to follow the same protocol, so the IPL will not
differ, and added that even after the major part of the revenue
goes to the stadium maintenance, some part of the income had
earned.
