April 12, 2004: Brian Lara hits record 400 vs England in Test cricket

A decade and six years back on the date of April 12th, 2004, the West Indies batsman Brian Charles Lara created history while batting against England, where the team was touring the West Indies soil for 4 Test match series. Brian Lara, the left-handed batsman, scored 400 not out in the 4th Test match, against England led by Michael Vaughan.

Yet the series came to a draw, as the Windies declared after their innings, by reaching a total of 751 runs for 5 wickets loss to the opponent team. The team England in the 1st innings had scored 285 runs for all out, and 422 runs for 5 in the 2nd innings, thus ending the game in a draw. Later Lara’s achievements were tried by others like Matthew Hayden from Australia batted 380 runs in 2004, Mahela Jayawardene the Sri Lankan batsman hit 374 in 2006, and Garfield Sobers from West Indies had previously scored 365 for his team during the match series year between 1957 to 1958.

The ICC board had posted a tweet about the ranked batsman in the long series matches, and reminded Lara’s quadruple century, without success, on Sunday, April 12th, 2020. Gayle, another Windies batsman at the date April 12th, 2004 had shared the pitch with Lara during the match and earned 69 runs, and Ridley Jacobs also scored a century on the day’s match with the England cricket team.
