Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 4 wickets in a low-scoring clash at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. LSG successfully chased down the 145-run modest target with 4 balls to spare, credits to Marcus Stoinis (62), who slammed a brilliant half-century. Nicholas Pooran hit the winning runs for LSG when things went a bit haywire for the home side in the death overs. MI skipper Hardik Pandya bagged two wickets for his side.

KL Rahul’s decision to bowl first proved to be fruitful with Mohsin Khan providing an early breakthrough for his side. Rohit Sharma perished cheaply after making a 5-ball 4. In the next over, LSG took a DRS to get the massive wicket of Suryakumar Yadav (10), and this time Stoinis was lucky to have gotten away with the delivery that went down the leg. Moments later, the man in-form Tilak Varma was dismissed as Ravi Bishnoi inflicted an excellent run-out.

Naveen-ul-Haq then bagged Pandya for a golden duck and MI reeled at 27/4. However, Ishan Kishan (32) and Nehal Wadhera added 53 runs for the fifth wicket to keep MI in the game. Wadhera scored a gritty 46 while Tim David gave a final push with an unbeaten 32 as MI posted 144/7 in 20 overs.

MI thought they had a good start with Nuwan Thushara dismissing Arshin Kulkarni for a golden duck, but Rahul and Stoinis stitched a 58-run partnership to keep LSG’s chase in control. Rahul departed for 28 while Deepak Hooda chipped in with 18. Although MI made a good comeback by picking regular wickets, Pooran stood tall to take LSG home.
