Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Kuldeep Yadav were the protagonists of a remarkable recovery from India on Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test in Ranchi. Spinners Ashwin and Kuldeep starred with exceptional bowling performance as India bowled out England for 145, setting up a chase of 192 runs to clinch the series. India finished 40/0 at stumps, needing another 152 runs to win their third straight match and also clinch the five-match Test series. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 24 and 16 respectively.

Earlier, England opener Zak Crawley top-scored for the visitors with a brilliant knock of 60 while the rest of the England batters faltered against Indian spinners, with Ashwin returning figures of 5/51 and Kuldeep 4/22. Ashwin gave England a double in consecutive balls, removing Ben Duckett for 15, and Ollie Pope for a golden duck. Joe Root (11) put on a 46-run stand with Crawley before India took a review to send off him.

Kuldeep cleaned up well-settled Crawley with a delivery that turned very sharp. The left-arm spinner then removed Ben Stokes (4) with a ball that barely bounced ankle-high. Jonny Bairstow (30) fell on the first ball after tea and the innings folded soon after. Ben Foakes departed for 17 and England lost regular wickets to end their innings in the final session, leaving it up to the bowlers to level the series.

Meanwhile, Jurel’s valiant knock of 90 drew him a standing ovation from the crowd and a warm response from his teammates. Jurel was greeted with a resounding ovation and admiration from the Indian dressing room as he came back to the pavilion following his dismissal, encapsulating the significance of his innings in the tense encounter. Jurel entered the crease with India in a dangerous position, with the difficult task of salvaging the match from the jaws of defeat. The teenager known for his composure and tenacity, demonstrated exceptional grit and resilience throughout his stay at the pitch.
