Team India will take on South Africa in the second and final Test of the two-match series, starting today (January 3) at Newlands Cricket Ground. Rohit Sharma-led side will look to turn things and secure a win on foreign soil after experiencing a humiliating defeat in the first Test. Indian batters have to stay in the middle and spend time reading the pitch conditions so that they can score more runs and help their side reach a big total.
Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna’s Test debut in Centurion was a horrible one as he finished with just one wicket for 98 runs in 20 overs. Following his poor performance on the SuperSport Park track, former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan have called for Krishna’s replacement, but it appears that India captain Rohit Sharma wants to give the young bowler another chance.
In the pre-game press conference in Cape Town on Tuesday, Rohit stated that he has yet to sit down with the team management and decide on the playing XI. Rohit however confirmed that all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the first Test due to a back spasm, is now eligible for selection.
I still feel that sometimes we’ve got a little bit of inexperience in our bowling and sometimes when you have that, you have to show some faith in them. We all get nervous when we’re playing our first game and the same happened to Prasidh who played his first Test. It’s understandable, Rohit admitted. Prasidh has a good ability to succeed at this level and especially in this format. So, it’s just about showing faith and trust in everyone, he concluded.
