Men in Blue produced a dominant performance to demolish arch-rivals Pakistan by 228 runs in the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup on Monday. Team India’s all-round effort helped them to secure the biggest win against Pakistan in ODI. Chasing a mammoth target of 357, Pakistan batters never found themselves going and kept losing wickets in quick intervals. Indian bowlers did a great job to trouble the opponents right from the start.
When the action resumed on the reserve, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul led the charge from the word go. Both batted brilliantly to reach their respective tons. The pair stitched 233 runs for the third wicket and returned undefeated, powering India to a huge total of 356/2 in 50 overs.
Kohli’s 47th ODI century came after just 267 innings, underscoring his unparalleled consistency and run-scoring ability. Kohli also shares the record for the most centuries in the Asia Cup (ODIs) with four centuries, putting him on par with the legendary Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya. The Veteran batter achieved the milestone of 13,000 ODI runs in just 267 innings, leaving legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, and Jayasuriya in his wake.
Pakistan then began the chase slowly, with Jasprit Bumrah striking early. Hardik Pandya then cleaned up Babar Azam before welcoming Kuldeep to the party. The spinner took five wickets in eight overs as Pakistan managed only 128 runs before losing eight wickets. Haris Rauf, who did not bowl, and Naseem Shah, who fled the pitch near the end of India’s innings, did not walk out to bat, handing India a resounding victory. India will face Sri Lanka in the Super 4 Clash on September 12, Tuesday.
