Men in Blue produced an all-round performance to beat Ireland by 33 runs in the second T20I match at the Village Stadium on Sunday. With a comfortable win, team India has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Jasprit Bumrah-led side will now have their eyes on a whitewash when they take on the hosts in the third and final T20I on August 23, Wednesday. Indian bowlers used the conditions well and took regular wickets to successfully defend a target of 186.

After being put into bat first, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave India a decent start, scoring 29 runs in 3.3 overs. Craig Young gave the initial breakthrough by dismissing Jaiswal (18). In the very next over, Barry McCarthy stunned the visitors by sending back the in-form Tilak Varma for just 1. But Gaikwad and Sanju Samson took on the charge and scored quick runs by hitting boundaries frequently.

Both added 71-run for the third wicket. While Benjamin White removed Samson for 40 Gaikwad departed after scoring an elegant 58. Shivam Dube chipped in with 22 and Rinku Singh played a crucial knock of 21-ball 38, helping India to reach a good total of 185/5 in 20 overs.

Ireland’s chase got off to a good start as Andrew Balbirnie hit few boundaries. But the hosts’ joy was only for a short period as Prasidh Krishna struck twice in the 3rd over. Balbirnie (72) batted beautifully and scored runs quickly but lacked good support from other batters. Ireland’s batters failed to deliver well when it mattered the most and eventually lost the game. Bumrah, Krishna, and Ravi Bishnoi all three bagged two wickets each for their side.
