Team India registered a comfortable series win against West Indies in the World Test Championship cycle. And now, Men in Blue are grooving themselves to clinch the three-match ODI series against the Windies, which starts today (July 27) at 7:00 Pm at Kensington Oval Barbados. The Rohit Sharma-led side will take this ODI series to prepare for the upcoming 50-over World Cup, which will be held in India later this year.

Former vice-captain KL Rahul is still not fit to take on the field and wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is already tipped to miss the entire 2023 season. Sanju Samson has been recalled to the Indian squad for the West Indies ODI series. The team management had named Samson and in-form Ishan Kishan as the two wicket-keepers in the squad. Samson, who has the ability to be power-hitting, is expected to feature for India on the Caribbean Island.

However, Kishan and Samson will continue to fight for the role of the wicketkeeper in the ICC World Cup tournament. Speaking to Cricbuzz about India’s ODI playing XI, senior cricketer Dinesh Karthik has explained why Kishan will have an edge over Samson. Throwing his weight behind the power-hitter, Karthik even claimed that the young wicketkeeper-batter can also be India’s reserve backup opener this season.

There is a chance that between Ishan and Sanju could be the choice for the second wicket-keeper. Ishan Kishan is slightly ahead because India lacks left-handers. So, there is a great chance that he could be up there. He would also be the reserve backup opener, Karthik concluded.
