The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to decide their stand on the impending Asian Games which will be held in China from September 28 onwards. The BCCI did not send its cricket team to participate when the sport was part of 2010 and 2014 Asiad. But this year, both men’s and women’s cricket teams will be making their debut in the Asian Games 2023. The matches are scheduled to take place from September 23 to October 8 and will be played in T20 format.

Since the ODI World Cup 2023 is scheduled to kick off on October 5 in India, BCCI has decided to send a second-string side to take part in the tournament. Multiple reports suggest that Shikhar Dhawan is likely to lead the Men in Blue in Asiad with VVS Laxman as the Head coach.

But before BCCI’s official announcement, Dinesh Karthik made a surprising suggestion for India captaincy and said that Ravichandran Ashwin deserves to be the captain. I genuinely wish, if India sends a B team to this Asian Games, because the main team will be preparing for the World Cup and if they feel Ashwin is not part of the ODI setup, I really hope and wish that they make him the captain, the wicketkeeper-batter said.

I genuinely feel that he is somebody who has earned the right to be a captain of Team India for whatever achievements he has done through the years. I really hope and wish that the selectors take the call to make him the captain in the Asian Games, Karthik concluded.
