Team India is receiving comments and advice from many former Indian cricketers after experiencing their second consecutive loss at the WTC final. A humiliating defeat against Australia in the 2023 WTC final has provoked a reboot in the Indian Test cricket team. The first on the list could be the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who has been struggling to deliver big knocks. Rohit’s last Test series as the captain is likely to be the India Tour of West Indies.

Reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the selection committee will discuss a new captaincy choice before the South Africa tour. Although struggling to score runs, Rohit can escape from the tough situation if he rakes a significant amount of runs on the Caribbean Island. BCCI and selectors will be under huge pressure to take a tough call if Rohit fails to produce at least one big knock.

A senior BCCI source confessed that these are baseless stuff that Rohit will be removed from captaincy. Yes, whether he will last the whole two-year WTC cycle is a big question as he would be nearly 38 when the third edition ends in 2025. As of now, I believe that Shiv Sunder Das and his colleagues will have to take a call after the two Tests and looking at his batting form, he added.

After West Indies, we have no Tests till December-end when the team travels to South Africa. So, there is enough time for selectors to deliberate and take a decision. By then the new chairman will also join the panel and the right decision can be taken, he concluded.
