Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) did well to halt Mumbai Indians’ (MI) winning momentum on a tricky pitch, winning a crucial match by 5 runs to inch closer to the playoffs. MI skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave a superb opening to their chase of 178 but the middle-order batters failed to capitalize on the start they had. Tim David’s fine cameo of 19-balls 32 went in vain as LSG pacer Mohsin Khan produced brilliant bowling to successfully defend 11 runs in the final over and won the thriller for his side at Ekana Sports City.

Earlier, MI’s pacer Jason Behrendorff gave his side an excellent start by dismissing Deepak Hooda (5) and Prerak Mankad for a duck in his consecutive deliveries. Soon after the powerplay Piyush Chawla bagged Quinton de Kock (16) who looked to play an anchoring inning.

Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis helped LSG get things back in order, adding 82 runs for the fourth wicket. Pandya rotated the strike well to keep the scoreboard ticking along before getting retired hurt at 49. On the other side, Stoinis hit a whirlwind 89 off 47 balls packed with 4 fours and 8 sixes guiding LSG to a challenging total of 177/3 in 20 overs.

MI’s chase got off to a blitzkrieg start as Rohit (37) and Ishan (59) added 90 runs in 9 overs. But Ravi Bishnoi brought his side back into the game by dismissing both the openers in his successive overs. Things got worse for the visitors when Yash Thakur cleaned up Suryakumar Yadav for just 7. Mohsin then removed Nehal Wadhera who chipped in with 16. MI lost the track and eventually the game too as fine hitter Cameron Green also had no answers for Mohsin’s brilliance in the final over.
