Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) turned it around in the final few overs to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 1 wicket, registering the highest run chase of IPL 2023 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Chasing a huge target of 213, Marcus Stoinis played a terrific knock of 65 off 30-balls, while Nicholas Pooran smashed the fastest half-century in IPL 2023, hitting an electrifying 62 off just 19-balls to turn the tides in LSG’s favor.

Put into bat first, the hosts had an excellent start as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis added 96 runs for the opening wicket. Both batters played some classical shots and scored runs at a good strike rate. Impact player Amit Mishra gave the crucial breakthrough by dismissing Kohli for 61. But RCB skipper du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell continued to play an attacking game.

Maxwell (59) scored a superb half-century with the help of 3 fours and 6 sixes before Mark Wood cleaned him up. Du Plessis top-scored with an unbeaten knock of 79 and guided his side to a mammoth total of 212/2 in 20 overs.

In reply, LSG got off to a dreadful start as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Kyle Mayers for a duck in the very first over. Wayne Parnell then removed Deepak Hooda (9) and Krunal Pandya (0) to push LSG further behind in the contest. However, Marcus Stoinis along with skipper KL Rahul added 76 runs for the third wicket before Karn Sharma removed the Aussie. Pooran alongside Ayush Badoni added 84 runs for the sixth wicket in just 35 balls before Siraj dismissed Pooran.

Parnell dismissed Badoni (30) in the 19th over as the coaster went up and down. With five required in the final over, Harshal Patel removed two batters and had a chance to push the match into the Super Overs. However, he failed to inflict a run-out at the non-striker’s end in the final ball.
