Rinku Singh blasted five consecutive sixes in the final over to drive Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a stunning three-wicket win over Gujarat Titans (GT) on a super Sunday clash. With 29 required in the final over, Rinku kept his calm, rained sixes, and remained unbeaten on 48 as KKR finished the daunting 205-run chase in the final ball of the match. Earlier, Venkatesh Iyer played a blistering knock of 83 off 40-balls to keep his side in the hunt.
Batting first, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill gave a decent start to their side, adding 33 runs in 4 overs. Sunil Narine drew the first blood by dismissing Saha for 17. Gill and Impact player Sai Sudharsan steadied the Titans’ ship, stitching a 67-run partnership before Narine bagged the crucial wicket of Gill (39). Moments later, Suyash Sharma bowled a ripper to clean up Abhinav Manohar (14).
But Sudharsan continued with his fine form to bring up his half-century. Narine struck again in the 18th over to remove well-settled Sudharsan (53). However, Vijay Shankar took the charge and played an attacking game toward the end. The right-handed batter smashed a quickfire 63 off just 24 balls, registering his maiden IPL half-century, and guided GT to a huge total of 204/4 in 20 overs.
Chasing a mammoth total, KKR lost early wickets of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (15) and Narayan Jagadeeshan (6) inside the powerplay overs. But Iyer and KKR captain Nitish Rana (45) played a counter-attacking game, adding 100 runs for the third wicket. Alzarri Joseph dismissed both batters in his consecutive overs to change the game in GT’s favor. In the 17th over, GT stand-in captain Rashid Khan took a hat trick to put his side on top. However, Rinku’s heroics with the bat sealed a memorable win for KKR.
