India wicket-keeper batter KS Bharat has made his presence felt with both bat and gloves in the ongoing four-match Test series. Bharat finally made his international debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after Rishabh Pant was ruled out due to injury. Bharath was impressive behind the stumps and also played a morale-boosting knock in India’s chase of 115 in the second Test.
Speaking about his approach in the pre-match interview, Bharat admitted that for him or any other batter is to be a little positive on any wicket. As a batsman, you have to look for scoring opportunities because, at the end of the day, the game is all about getting runs. So that is what I told myself and this is what the management also told me back your shots. The intent is never a problem, said Bharat.
The wickets are not unplayable. You just need to back your defense and there is definitely scope for batters to score, said Bharat. The 29-year-old cricketer expressed that shot selection is very important on these turning pitches and runs will come if the shot selection is right. Bharat stated it is not easy keeping wickets with Ashwin and Jadeja in operation, but keeping in domestic cricket all these years has helped him.
As a player, you always want to play and expect the opportunity to come and knock on your door in some way or the other. I have always prepared myself for any opportunity and if you want to play for your country that is the biggest occasion for any player. So yes, if any opportunity is there, I will take it, Bharat concluded.
