India will take on Australia in the second Test of the four-match series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday. After handing the Australians a humiliating defeat in the series opener, Rohit Sharma-led men will eye to win the second Test and take a 2-0 lead. Two big changes might be made in India’s playing XI for the match that starts today in Delhi. India vice-captain KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav are expected to be dropped from the squad.

With patience among Rahul’s critics wearing thin, it is time for the opener to make way for another batter. Rahul, who made his return to the Indian side in the first Test, had a forgetful outing with the bat. The right-handed batter managed to score 20 off 71 balls and unfortunately for him, India did not get the chance to bat again.

Many cricket experts feel that in-form Shubman Gill should replace Rahul and open with skipper Rohit in the second match of the high-profile Border-Gavaskar trophy. Gill slammed four centuries in his last seven international innings. On the other hand, Rahul only managed to hit a half-century in 2022 and his average is just 17.12 in eight innings last year.

Shreyas Iyer is expected to replace Suryakumar and make a return to the side. Suryakumar failed to leave his mark in the longest format of the game at Nagpur. Iyer plays a crucial role in the middle-order batting. Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has also hinted that Iyer can walk straight into the playing XI at Delhi.
